- Contractors or skilled laborers are always on the lookout for construction tools that will make their jobs easier. Being able to finish a job in less time (without cutting corners) means there is more time left to take on an additional job. Quality equipment also helps to improve the results of the project, barring any operator errors. These are a few of the innovative and inexpensive tools available to those in the construction industry.
1. Core Drill Core EZ- Innovative Techs
This unique one-man operation reduces operator exposure to silica and sludge when drilling small diameter holes through concrete or another masonry of any thickness on the job site. This compact, 48-pound tool drills through the solid surface and extracts the cylinder that was bored out through suction on the machine. The rings for the machine come in several different sizes, though many construction crews carry both the six and 10-inch sizes. The boring effect and suction removal leave little trace of the process after drilling.
2. Jet Wall Blaster
Through the blaster, one worker can apply any high viscosity mixture to plaster a surface. Cement, clay or similar mixtures can be sprayed onto vertical surfaces in a fraction of the time it would take a crew to trowel the mixture on by hand. Materials to be sprayed can range in thickness up to one inch, and the resulting coating depends on how heavily the mixture is applied. The stainless steel piece of equipment is portable and easy to clean, though it does rely on an air pressure of at least 90 psi to operate. There are two applicator nozzle options and two different forced air connectors as well.
3. Masonry Joint Raker
Rather than having to hand scrape the seams on masonry work, the joint raker speeds up how quickly a mason is able to put the finishing touches on a project. In addition to improving the look of the finished project, this tool also makes the mortar more durable. The tool provides extra compaction as it maneuvers around the seals between the blocks. Pushing mortar further between the bricks also keeps the color from fading as quickly and makes it less sensitive to low temperatures. This handheld tool keeps masons from having to come back for added grouting and processing of the masonry joints. The rolling raker minimizes waste with mortar as well.
4. Bricky Masonry Device
One of the most ingenious construction tools for those who work with masonry, the Bricky simplifies the process of laying a brick wall and improves consistency for mortar application. The device can be preset for the desired thickness of a layer of mortar both between the layers of bricks and the side-to-side spacing between the bricks. This creates a smooth surface for laying the brick and makes a uniform look. The kit allows for a mortar application that is two bricks wide.
5. Professional Nibbler Tool
This attachment piece fits on any standard drill and is a universal tool for cutting different sheet materials. The nibbler tools can work with plastic or metal sheets of any configuration. The tool is a drill head attachment, making it compact and safe for hand use, though it also has an option to be mounted to a workbench. It is portable, making it the perfect tool to use on the job site to cut PVC piping, copper tubing or other materials less than half an inch thick. Requiring a minimum drill speed of 1500 rpm, this tool can cut through both flat or corrugated materials.
